MESF Qualification Means You Will Be Motor Industry Accredited

The MESF or Mobile Electronics & Security Federation has spent a serious slice of time and effort to get their training and qualification system accredited by the motor industry and their Basic Installer qualification is open to anyone, while the higher certifications are intended for trade.
With Basic, Intermediate and all the way up to Master Installation Technician qualifications to be had, you too can benefit from all the Government meetings the MESF undertook.
First, here’s the serious stuff for the trade folks amongst you…

Keep Ahead Of Legislation With The Mesf
As new laws about liability and duty of care begin to bite, it is vital that installers of aftermarket equipment take steps, right now, to protect themselves in the event of investigation and prosecution. All serious injuries and deaths at work, including road accidents, are now regarded as crimes and are investigated by the police with a view to finding a culprit and bringing a prosecution. When blame is apportioned, anyone who is investigated and cannot show they are suitably qualified will be at a serious disadvantage, as could their employer and client for using them. The penalties available to the courts for those found guilty include life imprisonment and huge fines.
Customers and employers are being made aware of the need for qualified and accredited installation technicians by their liability insurers as the implications of new legislation become clear. They fully understand that compliance comes from the qualifications that in their turn deliver safety – and they are ready to pay to be safe.
To be fully credible, qualifications have to be achieved by examinations and observations that are conducted by an independent and qualified body. Accreditation has to be gained by adding qualifications to experience with participation in technical and product familiarisation courses.
Being the trade association concerned with vehicle entertainment, information, security and safety products, the Mobile Electronics and Security Federation has a programme of qualifications and accreditation, the Vehicle Enhancement Certification Programme, for installation technicians that are already recognised by the Government agency VOSA and the motor industry’s Awarding Body, the Institute of the Motor Industry. The MESF is an Approved Assessment Centre for the Institute of the Motor Industry.
Qualifications and accreditation are not just for self protection, they allow installation technicians to get their deserved recognition for the acquisition of the skills and knowledge that comes with experience and self development. An installation technician can progress from achieving a basic theory qualification to becoming a Master Enhancement Technician.
As a not-for-profit organisation the MESF keeps its fees as low as possible.

….and if you are a consumer….

Consumers Can Avoid Poor Installations Now
For over ten years the Mobile Electronics and Security Federation has provided businesses and individuals involved in the installation of security, entertainment and other enhancement products into motor vehicles, new, used and imported with approvals, qualifications and accreditation.
Installation businesses that are independent of motor manufacturers can become MESF Approved Installation Specialists by proving compliance with a strict installation Code of Practice that has been written, and is regularly reviewed, by installation industry professionals.
Installation technicians can have their skills and knowledge tested in a progressive programme of qualifications and accreditation. First step is the MESF Certificate 1 Basic Installation which is the minimum qualification a consumer should look for when having equipment installed in their vehicle.
By adding experience and continuous professional development to their qualifications, installation technicians can be accredited by the MESF up to Master level.
Should an approved business or accredited technician be found not complying with the installation Code of Practice, they face suspension or permanent removal from the MESF Register.
Consumers are strongly advised to look for installation businesses that are MESF Approved Specialists employing MESF Accredited installation technicians to avoid the problems caused by the poor installation practices of unregulated businesses and unqualified fitters.
Customer satisfaction with a safe installation is the prime directive for all MESF members.
The MESF is an Approved Assessment Centre of the Institute of the Motor Industry and follows the motor industry’s National Occupational Standards in its Code of Practice and qualifications.
