Vibe’s Three Dimensions
The only really upsetting thing about the best cars in existence is that in my job I sometimes get close to them and they depress me. The fabulous McLaren Fl and then the Mercedes McLaren did this to me with savagery – in fact Fly of Max Power’s best ever shot of me was looking tearful in the F1. He had pretended his camera was playing up and then papped me looked genuinely heart-sick.
Well, the whole package of the serious Vibe Space 3D component system installed into the awesome new R8 on the Vibe stand at the trade show run by Mobile Electronics News for the dealers (we went to spy for you) did it to me again. The car is of course breathtakingly gorgeous and the engineering is incredible and profoundly close to that of the Boss’s previous car – a Lamborghini, yet the carefully crafted install in the car is capable of transporting you on its own.
There is a trio of bass makers in the back, crammed artfully into what little cubic this mid-engined beast has and the doors are equipped with the three-way alloy coned drivers that comprise the new Space 3D components. Sweet and tight, they were running on the OEM kit (The guv’nor is seriously considering going with Alpine Imprint for the tweakery of that in the meanwhile, as it was his first hearing of it at the show, too) and I was played the new Vibe demo disc. It has clips of some of the most famous pop and rock items of all time and must have cost a mint to license but it was worth it.
Songs and anthems from my youth were reproduced so well, the music took me right back to the times and placesquite away from any critical analysis and the best sound does this. I wasn’t in review mode by any means but it was a definite emotional response due to the sheer quality and you can’t really say better than that.
If you see the R8 at a show, queue for an hour if need be to listen. It’s worth it.
The picture shows promotional assistants for the day, Sophie Page and Nicola Cowell but not much of the car. Or the speakers. Sigh&;.
