The Deacon, Pure & Alpine

Vicky Deacon, late of Blaupunkt’s PR department recently made a move off to go work for PURE, the radio makers, who are revolutionising the sluggish DAB market. Their home radios have taken over pretty much from the illustrious Roberts as the new brand of choice for a quality portable home-use radio (Although Roberts remain a big player and have the heritage and royal warrant, of course) but using her deep knowledge of the mobile electronics market has set up a deal whereby Alpine dealers can access the fabby new diddy PURE DAB ‘Highway’ portable radio and sell them with Alpine systems. The unit can be appended to any system by dint of that old stalwart, an FM transmitter, which sends the music effectively up your aerial lead without needing to be hard-wired to it. So while it is about the channels and programme content and superb ease-of-use of the DAB broadcasting system in this application, rather then the fabby sound quality the format allows, it can be accessorised with an MP3 player or iPod via the input socket, too.
Here’s some stuff about the Highway, from the PURE siteand a pic of Vicky, met up with on the Alpine stand at the trade show recently held in Coventry.

Highway is a unique, easy to fit in-car DAB digital radio that also enables you to listen to your iPod/MP3 player.
Powered from the in-car power socket and easily attached to your windscreen with a removable flexible mount (just like sat nav) Highway receives DAB stations and transmits them to your car radio on a free FM frequency. Simply tune your car radio to the FM frequency shown on Highway’s display to listen to DAB or your iPod/MP3 player.
DAB digital radio brings you more stations including BBC 7, BBC Five Live Sports Extra, Planet Rock and theJazz. National AM stations such as talkSPORT, Virgin and BBC Five Live are also broadcast in crisp, clear digital-quality audio.
Highway is packed with great, easy-to-use features such as ReVu to pause and skip back through live DAB radio, quickSCAN to find free FM transmission frequencies, and 4 FM transmission presets (synchronize these with your car radio’s FM presets to make avoiding interference a breeze). You can even take Highway from the car when your journey’s over and carry on listening using headphones. (Headphones not included.)
Whether you want to enjoy the digital stations in-car that you do at home, listen to your iPod/MP3 player on the move, or just discover DAB, Highway brings a lot more entertainment to your journey.
