PLAYUP to Sponsor the PFA Fans’ Awards
Here’s one for the footy fans amongst you.
I was invited to a swish launch of the new sponsorship of the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Month award by Playup who run interactive games on your mobile. My views on gambling are pompous but this is about being a skilful pundit and if you are right about who sets up and who scores, you share the prize pool, which could mean thousands. It’s all on SMS and as the leading mobile technology site, they found us and asked me along. I felt like an impostor!
Here’s the full SP on making £2 bets on who will score next in any game you might be taking in on DAB while on the way to or from a car event!
New interactive gaming company PLAYUP, is to become the official sponsor of the PFA’s Fans Award for the next three years until the end of the 2009/10 football season. They will sponsor the Award with their football game, 2UP.
The Award, now known as ‘The PFA 2UP Fans Awards’, allows fans to vote for their favourite player of the month, every month, on the PFA official website. To date over one million fans have participated in the monthly vote across all four English leagues.
2UP is a brand new football game, allowing fans to text their prediction of the ‘assist’ and ‘scorer’ of the next goal in any Premiership match. Each text costs £2 with the money going into a pool; then, when a goal is scored, the winners split the pool between them. As more players join so the pool grows. It is the first live, in-match, pool-style game to be played via text message.
Through the sponsorship, PLAYUP has also enabled fans to be able to vote for their player of the month via text, as well as email. One lucky voter from either voting system, who chooses the winning player for the month from each Division, wins the opportunity to go pitch-side to meet the player and present them with a trophy to recognise the player’s achievements over the month.
Previous winners of the PFA Fans Player Premiership award have included Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard.
So there you have it. I was given a goody bag.
Contents: Printed Playup tee-shirt (M), Scarf, plastic key ring, stress ball, embroidered baseball cap. PFA 100 yrs 1907-2007 commemorative leatherette hardbound book and leatherette cased enamel key ring. Playup instruction glossy card.
First person to read this here and who wants the whole bag of footy goodies (the book is the prize for a true football nut – a rarity) and then gets onto the forum thread placed for it and PMs me with the magic word ‘Barmcake’ will get the lot.
