Boston SPG555

Boston Acoustics, Inc., a premier manufacturer of high performance audio solutions for use in aftermarket and OEM automotive systems, home music and audio/video systems, and custom built-in audio systems is pleased to announce the launch of the SPG555 Reference Subwoofer.

‘This product is nothing short of revolutionary,’ says Leif Blackmon, Boston’s Director of Mobile Audio. ‘The final SPG555 design has exceeded even our highest expectations in terms of performance and serviceability. It is an industry first.’
With a total weight of only 26 pounds, the SPG555 is a tour de force! By incorporating a powerful neodymium magnet system, the total weight is significantly reduced from that of heavier models relying massive magnets (almost half.) The SPG555 is the ideal choice for consumers who refuse to compromise the performance of their vehicle with the bulk of a typical audio system-the lightweight design allows the consumer to have the best of both worlds.
What’s more, the SPG555 chassis can be fully broken down for custom painting, powder-coating, or detailing of hard parts. The new Boston driver also requires far less air space than similar products for optimal performance and can work superbly in enclosure volumes as small as 1 cubic foot. Yet despite its revolutionary design and super-compact form the new Boston sub boasts 3.75-inches of peak-to-peak excursion and 555 cubic-centimeter total displacement-hence its model-name.
Boston’s distinctively bold industrial design of the SPG555 yields a ‘racetrack’-shaped cone that offers greater surface area and thus greater output than a conventional 12-inch round; it also offers real advantages for custom installation. Like Boston’s acclaimed G5 subs, the SPG555 subwoofer incorporates both the company’s Soft Part System (SPS) for quick removal and fast on-site repairs when more than the voice coil requires replacement, and Boston’s RadialVent cooling, a unique chassis structure that effectively cools the assembly to extend power-handling and enhance low-distortion, linear high output.
The SPG555 is unequaled in this subwoofer category. This dynamo delivers an industry first with the patent-pending Replaceable Voice Coil (RVC) technology making it possible for the first time to replace a sub’s voice coil alone-on site, in the field-without rebuilding or exchanging the entire speaker. The groundbreaking SPG555, the first loudspeaker to incorporate this technology, features a separate voice-coil assembly that can easily and precisely be removed even while the subwoofer remains installed in its enclosure or baffle. This remarkable design allows the 3.5-inch voice coil to be exchanged while leaving all other components untouched, saving valuable time and money for customer and installer.
Like all Boston Acoustics mobile audio products, the SPG555 Subwoofer was conceived, designed, engineered, and manufactured in the Peabody, MA facility and is tuned to +/- 1dB of the reference master.
