Jolly Swagman
OK Here is the deal. This is a magazine. It might be a free one but that does not mean we do not need to promote ourselves and do competitions and give away prizes and stuff. Being on the net, our advertisers want above all for you to go click their banners and have a wander about their websites as well as Talk Audio’s. Of course, we rely, in the time-honoured fashion upon revenue from advertising to pay for the redesigns and hosting, and the new stuff we bought to go exhibiting with and coffee and so forth. So I thought ‘How can we make the swag work?’
What I want to avoid is the script that offers a question, however clever or inane and then selects a random winner. That way, the professional ‘compers’ with no interest in our world beyond including it in their plundering lifestyle are excluded&;&;
So, I have loads of swag and here’s how it’ll work from now on. For each swag item, we will publish a SWAG ALERT. This will invite you to enter to win the swag. There will be a new thread started on the Magazine, Product & Review Discussions forum and all you have to do to be in with a chance is to copy and paste a url from a page in the relevant product’s website via a clickthrough of their banner or from one of their reviews’ weblistings. Then you need to write a one line or a few words statement making some sort of contextual reference to the page. Just proves you have had a brief look at it.
The idea is that it prevents an ‘answer’ surging around the compers virally and it makes you guys, the readers the only ones who can Grip The Swag.
And here’s an example of the new jobs&;.
SWAG ALERT (Example)
Fusion swag: a complete bass install bar the cellulose (MDF) comprising Fusion PowerPlant 12 inch subwoofer (£99.99); a Fusion AM10010 amplifier (£149.99); and an ACAK04 wiring kit (£24.99)
Worth a total RRP of £274.97.
And here’s a sample of what we mean. Your Fusion forum entry would look like this:
A page link: http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/united-kingdom/team-fusion.aspx
Comment : I’d like to ‘Team Up’ with the Fusion girls on this page&;&;. Your entry needs to be unique, so use a page no one has used yet or make sure your contextual reference is different to someone else’s, so if you had used the same page as me then you could say instead, ‘I didn’t know tigers came in that shade&;’ Or anything to make yours different to theirs. The only thing that will get your entry ignored is if you have cut and pasted, or even clumsily edited, someone else’s. I’m a writer and you can hear each voice by word choice as clear as a fingerprint. Even if it is too similar to someone else’s, the earlier post will count.
Then after a week, one entry will be picked from the forum thread to win the swag. At that point, we will need your address of desired despatch which can be organised by Personal Message over the forum system. All we really want in return is a picture of happy winner with swag, even if it’s just a pile on a bonnet and an arm reaching in with the thumb up! We’d rather see your happy chops though! Any reasonably legal means of self expression will be published on the news section under a suitable headline. So, you win swag, you get famous, all on Talk Audio and all free!
Sounds like a plot to me&;&;even if there’s an effort involved. A few minutes clicking and a one liner to be in with a chance in this case of swagging a bass prize worth £275 smackers.
