It’s Not Business, It’s Personal

It’s Not Business, It’s Personal.

The famous trials after the second world war gave us the quote; “I was just carrying out orders…”

I will not name the manufacturer, the legendary retailer, nor the UK distributors of these products (as anger is an en energy, as John Lydon once said and I WILL NOT leave the brand as a searchable item here) but I have finally felt moved to take some responsibility for promoting products made and sold by an Israeli company. Arguably the very best speakers ever made for cars. I am on record as being a massive fan of their skills, designs and technologies, as well as the amazing sound they make.

The manufacturer company know me personally. They mistranslated my joke at the end of an article and thought my name was, “Winders Dahn” as against it merely being an expression at the end of the piece!

The retailer, I have known for decades, since the son was a teenager and is now the boss. His dad, whom I adored, has long since been gathered to his ancestors.

The distributor once paid for a technical test, way back when I was ICE editor of Max Power magazine, which again, dates it in decades and again, the most beloved of all the companies I ever dealt with. The boss has just retired and again, the sons, or second generation now run the company and have some literally bloody brilliant and clever other products in their roster.

But I can’t be part of promoting a company that has to pay taxes that support genocide.

Miriam Margolyes is effectively an ‘Auntie’ of mine. She was great chums with my mum, once saying, “Claire, they don’t fucking respect me here! I’m going to America to be a fucking STAR!” And she DID!

Once, a friend and I went and stayed in her house in Amsterdam, when she was on holiday. That was mostly about preventing the place from being squatted in, as well as looking after an adorable old black cat called “Otello’ who’s bowl said “POESS” upon it. He had been in an accident and his back feet made loud thumpy sounds on the floorboards when he walked. He was adorable.

But Miriam has said it best:

So today, I have deleted 12 Youtube videos with 98,300 total views and 29 web stories, news items and reviews about the products and installations, with 23,768 views.

I have been resisting these thoughts with “It’s just business” but it isn’t.

It’s not Business, It’s personal.

So glad Miriam has said it like it is.
