JL Audio’s New J2 Amps Raise The Bar

Despite having some truly sexy metal, JL Audio’s Lucio Proni tends to drive to work in his PT Cruiser. Cute enough by UK standards but still just a regular family car rather than an exotic to give you a thrill on the way to work. He does this because the car is rigged for easy use as a rolling test bench. New equipment gets given the test of the golden eared variety by Lucio himself.
Those same shell-likes that took JL Audio from nowhere to the front of the sound off SQ scene like Usain Bolt and kept it there as more and ever yet better equipment rolled out the front doors, (the W7 still arguably being the best bass transducer ever made) are the same ears that have to be impressed with the latest kit. JL Audio do not make ‘me-too’ or lowest common denominator product and what’s been done with the new J2 series of amplifiers is pure cunning of engineering. What they have made affordable is excellence.

Designed from the ground up to have function breed form and to eschew any of the ‘joy-of-possession’ or perhaps ‘bling’ frills (depending on your terminology choice) like sexy blue LEDs or specially tooled castings, the new J2 amplifiers have no Chrome but they do have pukka MOSFET power supplies in their guts and real variable crossovers instead of simple fixed-switch designs seen on lesser kit. You still get a wired remote bass gain on the three monoblocks in the range and the bass boost is also on a variable 0 to 12dB potentiometer.
Comprising five models, they are 250.1, 500.1 ,
1000.1 (class D), 360.2 and 320.4. More details

To launch these new products the JL Audio UK distributor Celsus ran a super cool dealer evening on the same weekend as their Top Gun show in Poole. The RNLI headquarters quayside venue featured demo cars under the setting sun and a proper auditorium for the presentations by JL Audio’s Steve Turrisi and Mitek Europe’s Jacco Kaper – both of whom are inspirational motivators who glow from within with delight in their jobs and the products they work with.
